The best Raycast AI alternatives for Mac

The best Raycast AI alternative is Koi if you'd rather talk than type: you ask out loud, it sees your screen, circles what to click and can click it, on any Mac from macOS 14. Alter and BoltAI suit people who want their own keys and local models. Raycast AI itself needs macOS Tahoe and Apple silicon, and its free plan has no AI.

What is Raycast AI?

Raycast AI is the AI built into Raycast, the Mac launcher. Quick AI answers a small question from the search bar, AI Chat is a full chat window, AI Commands turn your favourite prompts into shortcuts, and AI Extensions let it work with your other apps. Agents add projects with their own memory, custom agents and automations that run on a schedule. Screen Awareness hands it what's on your screen as context, and paid plans include dictation. Since version 1.98, in May 2025, Raycast also takes MCP servers (changelog).

You can pick from many models, bring your own API keys, or run a local model through Ollama. Raycast says your data is stored on your computer, and that its agreements with AI providers stop them training on your chats. With Cloud Sync on, AI Chats are saved on its servers so they reach your other devices.

We make Koi, the first pick below, so read this with that in mind. Prices and features for every app come from their own sites, checked October 21, 2026, in USD.

Why look for a Raycast AI alternative?

  • Raycast AI needs macOS Tahoe and Apple silicon. On an Intel Mac, or an older macOS, you don't get it.
  • The free plan has no AI at all. Pro is $10 a month with 500 AI credits, and each model spends them at its own rate.
  • It's built for typing. You open Raycast, type and read the answer in its window. If you'd rather talk and hear an answer, it isn't made for that.
  • It answers in a window. It doesn't point at the button you need or draw on the screen.
  • You don't need a launcher. If Spotlight is enough for you, paying for Raycast just for the AI is a lot of app.

Stay on Raycast AI if

  • You live in Raycast already. Its launcher, extensions, snippets and window tools are the main event, and the AI is one more thing in the same place.
  • You want to pick the model for each job, use your own API keys, or run a local model through Ollama. Koi does none of that for its assistant.
  • You want your own MCP servers and AI Extensions for your other apps. Koi takes no MCP servers of yours.
  • You want automations on a schedule. Koi runs nothing in the background.
  • You want it cheaper. Raycast Pro is $10 a month; Koi Pro is $20.
  • You also use Windows. Raycast has a Windows app; Koi is Mac only.

6 Raycast AI alternatives for Mac in 2026

1. Koi

Best for: Talking instead of typing, with an AI that points, draws and clicks

Koi is voice first. Tap Fn + ⌘ once and ask out loud; Koi answers out loud, and you go back and forth until it hangs up after seven quiet seconds, or you tap the keys again. It looks at your screen with the question, so “what does this error mean?” just works. It circles the button you need, highlights the sentence it means, or sketches a diagram over the screen. Select text in any app and say “make it shorter”; the changed words are highlighted and ⌘Z takes it back. Say “open YouTube and search for lo-fi” and its own pointer does it.

Rather type? Tap Control twice for a chat box that sees your screen, and “/” sends one of your saved prompts, a lot like an AI Command. Tap Fn + ⌥ for dictation that runs on your Mac, offline and unlimited on every plan. Koi also records calls without a bot, keeps documents on your Mac, and remembers what you tell it, there too.

Where it falls short of Raycast: no model picker, no API keys of your own, no local model for the assistant, and talking to Koi needs the internet. No extension store, no schedules. Pro is $20 a month, or $192 a year, after a 3-day trial that needs a card, and Lifetime is paid once, from $59. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel, so Intel Macs and macOS 14 are fine.

2. Alter

Best for: Many models and local AI, free with your own keys

Alter lives in the notch. It takes voice and dictation, uses what's on your screen and in your apps, and has more than 80 built-in actions plus your own. It records meetings with speaker names, picks among 50+ models for each task, and runs local models through Ollama or LM Studio. Its site says chats stay local and encrypted.

Every feature is free with your own API keys or local models. Local+ is $29 a year, Pro $240 a year with its own cloud models and 2,000+ connected services, and Lifetime $720 (Alter pricing). Every plan allows one active device at a time. Its site lists macOS 14 in one place and Ventura 13 in another.

3. BoltAI

Best for: Paying once, with your own API keys

BoltAI is a Mac chat app for power users: projects, forked chats, saved agents, a prompt library, an overlay on a global shortcut, inline edits in any app, dictation and a screenshot-to-answer command. It takes local and remote MCP servers, and runs local models through Ollama or LM Studio. Chats are kept on your Mac.

It's bought once: $79 for one Mac, $99 for Pro and $199 for Pro+, with a year of updates and renewal at 40% off (BoltAI pricing). It includes no AI credits, so you pay your providers too. macOS 13 or later, Intel or Apple silicon, with a 14-day trial. More in BoltAI alternatives.

4. HeyClicky

Best for: A voice that draws on your screen, with a free plan

HeyClicky sees your screen when you press its hotkey, answers out loud and draws on the screen to point the way. Its agents take tasks off your hands, and dictation comes with every plan.

Free gives 25 talk and 25 agent messages a month. Pro is $20 a month with unlimited talk, and Max $100 (HeyClicky pricing). macOS 14.2 or later, with a Windows waitlist. See HeyClicky alternatives.

5. VoiceOS

Best for: Dictation and a voice agent with your own MCP servers

VoiceOS pairs dictation in 100 languages, with styles and your own words, with an Agent Mode that searches the web, sets reminders, uses screen awareness and your own MCP servers, and asks before it acts.

Pro is $11.99 a month billed yearly, after a 7-day trial that needs a card, and there's no free plan (VoiceOS pricing). Mac and Windows. Our Koi vs VoiceOS page compares the two.

6. Siri AI (Apple Intelligence)

Best for: Newer Macs on macOS 27, with nothing to install

Apple says Siri AI, in beta on macOS 27, answers questions about what's on your screen and acts on it. Command-Shift-Space picks a window to ask about, Command-Shift-6 a part of the screen. It needs an M1 Mac or later, or the MacBook Neo, and speaks English to start.

It's built in, with daily limits on features that use Apple's servers, and Apple says expanded access will cost a fee later. No Intel Macs. Our Siri vs Koi page goes deeper.

Asking about your screen: Raycast's way and Koi's

In Raycast, you type:

  1. Open Raycast with its hotkey.
  2. Type your question and send it to Quick AI, or open AI Chat for a longer talk.
  3. With Screen Awareness on, the agent gets what's on your screen as context.
  4. Read the answer in Raycast's window, then copy or paste it where you need it.

In Koi, you talk, and it answers on the screen itself:

  1. Tap Fn + ⌘ once. A light runs round the edge of the screen while the call is on.
  2. Ask out loud: “which one do I click to export this?”
  3. Koi looks at the screen with your question and circles the button, or highlights the line it means.
  4. Ask a follow-up, or say “do it” and Koi clicks it for you. It won't buy, send, post, delete or sign in, whoever asks.
  5. Stop talking. After seven quiet seconds the call ends by itself.

Raycast, Alter and BoltAI are for people who want to choose their models. Koi, HeyClicky and Siri AI choose for you, so you only talk.

Can you use Koi and Raycast together?

Yes. Koi has Raycast commands of its own: Dictate, Record Call, Record in Person, New Document, Ask Koi and Call Koi. Ask Koi types your question into Koi's chat and leaves sending it to you. So you can keep Raycast for launching and typed questions, and use Koi when you'd rather talk, need something circled on the screen, or want a call recorded.

The same commands are in Shortcuts and Spotlight, and Koi works the other way too: Claude, Cursor, Claude Code or Codex can search your Koi documents and calls over MCP. See Koi and MCP.
