Dock previews

See an app's windows from the Dock

Rest the pointer on an app in the macOS Dock and Koi shows its open windows above the icon, minimized ones too. Click one to bring it forward, or × to close it.

Rest on an app. See its windows.

macOS shows you an app's icon in the Dock, never its windows. With Koi, rest the pointer on a running app's icon and its open windows show above it, each with its title and a small live picture, minimized ones too. Click one and it comes forward.

  1. Open Koi's Settings and go to Notch & tools.
  2. Turn on Window previews in the Dock. If Koi still needs Accessibility or Screen Recording, it asks.
  3. Rest the pointer on an app in the Dock for a moment.
  4. Click a window to bring it to the front, or a minimized one to restore it. Hover one and click × to close it.

Small things it gets right

  • It shows the windows on the desktop you're on.
  • With the Dock on the left or right, the previews show beside it.
  • Moving to another icon switches at once. Moving away or clicking elsewhere puts them away.
  • An app with no windows says “No windows”.
  • Nothing runs until you rest on an icon.

Pictures that stay on your Mac

The pictures are taken on your Mac while you hover, held for a few seconds and never kept or sent. Nothing is pictured while a password is typed, from password managers, or from windows that ask not to be captured.

Koi and other Dock preview apps

DockDoor is free and does far more around the Dock, and AltTab gives you a window switcher on the keyboard. Koi's previews are one small part of a bigger app. See DockDoor, HyperDock and AltTab alternatives.

Part of Koi

Koi is $20 a month or $7 for a first week, or Lifetime, paid once. See the plans, or how to turn on Dock previews.
