The best AltTab alternatives for Mac

AltTab is free and the best keyboard window switcher on the Mac. DockDoor adds Dock previews to a switcher, free. Koi shows an app's windows from the Dock, without a switcher.

What AltTab does, and what it costs

AltTab brings Windows' alt-tab to the Mac. Where ⌘Tab switches apps, AltTab switches windows: every one, minimized, hidden and on other Spaces, with a badge saying where it is and a big preview of the one you're on. You set your own shortcuts and trackpad gestures.

The core is free and open source (GPL-3.0). Pro adds type to search, more styles and up to 9 shortcuts: $9.99 once for the current version, or $24.99 for Pro Lifetime, with every Pro feature free for 14 days. It needs macOS 12 or later and says it has no tracking and no telemetry. It's updated almost every month.

We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Koi has no window switcher, and we say where that matters below. Every fact about another app comes from that app's own site, checked October 26, 2026.

The best AltTab alternatives for Mac in 2026

1. DockDoor

Best for: A switcher and Dock previews in one free app

DockDoor has its own Option-Tab switcher with search, and also shows an app's windows when you point at it in the Dock. Free and open source, macOS 13 or later. More in our DockDoor alternatives.

2. Koi

Best for: Seeing an app's windows from the Dock, with the mouse

Koi isn't a switcher. Rest the pointer on an app in the Dock and its windows on this desktop show above it, minimized ones too. Click one to bring it forward. If you reach for windows with the mouse more than the keyboard, that may be all you need.

Where AltTab is better, plainly: it's free, it's keyboard first, and it shows every window across Spaces. Koi is $20 a month or Lifetime, paid once, with dictation, call recording and an assistant in your notch.

3. ⌘Tab and App Exposé, built in

Best for: Free, already there

⌘Tab switches apps, and ⌘` cycles one app's windows. Control and the down arrow shows all of one app's windows across the screen.
