Teleprompter

Read your script. Look at the lens.

Paste your script and Koi's notch grows into a teleprompter right under your camera. It follows your voice, heard on your Mac and never sent, or scrolls at a steady speed, and it's left out of screen shares in apps like Zoom, Meet and Teams.

Your script, right under the camera

Read a script from a window halfway down the screen and everyone can tell: your eyes drop, then jump back up. Koi puts the words where the camera is. Open the notch's Tools, pick Teleprompter, paste your script and press Start. The notch grows down into a black panel right under the lens, and your script rolls up through it, so you read while looking at the people you're talking to.

  1. Hover the notch and open the Tools. Pick Teleprompter.
  2. Paste or type your script, or import a PDF, Word, Markdown or text file. The last one is kept for next time.
  3. Pick how it's paced: following your voice, or a steady speed.
  4. Press Start, and read.

The line you're on is the brightest, with soft fades at the top and bottom of the panel, and the pace shows in the notch's left wing. On a Mac without a notch, Koi draws a small one of its own at the top of the screen, under the camera all the same.

It follows your voice

Koi hears you on your Mac with its dictation model and keeps the line you're on at the reading spot. Speed up, slow down, stop to think, and it waits. A skipped sentence or a word misheard doesn't lose it, and a word said again doesn't pull it back.

Rather set the pace yourself? Pick a steady speed, from 60 to 260 words a minute. Without the microphone, Koi scrolls at a steady speed anyway, and says so.

Left out when you share

While the teleprompter is on, the notch is hidden from screen capture, so apps like Zoom, Meet and Teams leave it out of what they share or record, whatever else is going on. Share your whole screen on Zoom, Meet or Teams, record a demo, and your script isn't in it. Step by step for calls: how to use a teleprompter on Zoom without anyone seeing.

Quiet keys, and a small strip

KeyWhat it does
SpacePause, and go on
↑ and ↓, trackpad or mouseGo back, and go on
⌘↑Back to the top
+ and −The speed, or the text's size while it follows your voice
⌘+ and ⌘−The text's size, always
EscEnd it

Under the pointer, or while it's paused, a small strip shows play or pause, the speed, the text's size, mirror (for a teleprompter glass) and close. The keys are only taken while it reads and is in front: a click on another app gives them back.

What stays on your Mac

  • Your script, the last one only, and how it was paced, its speed, text size and mirror, are kept in the app's settings.
  • Following your voice, the microphone is heard on the Mac, a few seconds at a time, only to find your place. Nothing heard is kept.
  • Neither the sound nor the script is sent anywhere.
  • Anonymous usage counts that the teleprompter opened, started (and how it's paced), paused and finished, and for how long. Never the script. Settings, Privacy & data turns it off.

Calls, videos and talks

  • A pitch or a demo on a call, without looking down at your notes.
  • A YouTube video or a course, read to the lens: see the teleprompter for YouTube guide.
  • An interview answer you want to get right, kept to bullet points.
  • A talk through a teleprompter glass, with Mirror on.
