Files Tray

Drop it on the notch. Drag it out later.

Koi's Files Tray is a file shelf in your notch. Drop files on it, and they wait in the notch's Tray tab until you drag them into any app, Finder or the board.

A shelf for your files, in the notch

Moving a file between two apps that don't sit side by side is a pain. Drop it on the notch instead, go where it needs to go, and drag it out there.

  1. Drag files from Finder, the desktop or any app up to the notch. It opens two spots: Files Tray and AirDrop.
  2. Drop them on Files Tray. The Tray tab counts them.
  3. Later, hover the notch and open the Tray tab. Your files show newest first, each with a picture and its name.
  4. Drag one out into any app, Finder or the board. Or click it to open it.

Right-click a file for Open, Show in Finder and Remove from Tray. Clear empties the tray, and your files stay where they are.

How it behaves

  • It keeps a link to each file, never a copy. Move or rename a file and it's still there.
  • Dragging a file out leaves it in the tray, so you can use it again.
  • Into Finder, it copies or moves by Finder's usual rules.
  • Up to 50 files, newest first. A file you delete leaves the tray by itself.
  • You can also drop files straight on the open Tray tab.

Right beside AirDrop

The other spot sends. Drop files on AirDrop and macOS's AirDrop window opens to pick an iPhone, iPad or Mac nearby. More in how to AirDrop from the notch.

Nothing leaves your Mac

The tray lives in Koi's settings on your Mac: a link to each file and when it was added. Nothing about it is sent: not the file, its name or what's in it.

Koi and shelf apps

Dropover, Yoink and Dropzone are shelf apps first, with more ways to open a shelf, actions and uploads. Koi's tray is simpler and sits in the notch, beside everything else Koi does. See Dropover, Yoink and Dropzone alternatives.

Part of Koi

Koi is $20 a month or $7 for a first week, or Lifetime, paid once. See the plans, or how to keep files in the notch.
