How to keep files in the notch

Drag files up to the notch and drop them on Files Tray. They wait in the notch's Tray tab until you drag them out, into any app.

By Irakli, founder ·

How to do it

  1. Drag files or folders from Finder, the desktop or any app up to the notch. It opens two spots: Files Tray on the left, AirDrop on the right.
  2. Drop them on Files Tray. The Tray tab, beside Koi and Tools, counts them.
  3. When you need one, hover the notch and open the Tray tab. Your files show newest first, each with a picture and its name.
  4. Drag a file out into any app, Finder or the board. Click it to open it, or right-click for Open, Show in Finder and Remove from Tray.
  5. Click Clear to empty the tray. Your files stay where they are.

Worth knowing

  • You can also drop files straight on the open Tray tab.
  • Dragging a file out leaves it in the tray. Into Finder, it copies or moves by Finder's usual rules.
  • The tray holds up to 50 files. It keeps a link to each one, never a copy, so a file you move or rename stays in it, and one you delete leaves it by itself.
  • Nothing about your tray is sent anywhere.
