Live captions

Live captions in your language, on any call

While Koi records a call, what the others say shows at the bottom of your screen in your language, translated on your Mac, with the words as said underneath. Any call app, nothing sent away to translate it.

Understand every call, in your language

On a call Koi records, what the others say shows at the bottom of your screen, translated into your language on your Mac, with the words as they were said underneath. It works on Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or any call app, because it comes from your Mac rather than the call's plan.

The limits, plainly: captions run only while Koi records a call, they need macOS 26 or later, and they translate what the others say, not your own voice.

Turn on captions in three steps

  1. In Koi's Settings, open the Koi tab, and under Calls and meetings turn on Live captions in my language.
  2. Pick the language you want them in. If it isn't on your Mac yet, download it there. Until it has, the captions show the words as said.
  3. On the call, tap Fn + ⌃ and pick Online call, or choose Record an Online Call in the menu bar.

Translated on your Mac, as it's heard

As each stretch of what the others say is written down, Apple's Translation turns it into your language right on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere to translate it, and the captions never show in a screen you share.

When the call ends, it's a document in Recents with the transcript, You and Them in turns, and the audio or the video. Say yes to its notes for a summary and your to-dos.

A coach for calls you take in it

Turn on “Coach how I speak” too, and when you say yes to a call's notes they add a few things you said, put more naturally, and words worth practising. To dictate in your language and type English, see speaking any language and typing in English.

Before your first call

  • Koi needs Screen Recording to hear the other side of the call.
  • The translation is Apple's. Try it on a short call before one that matters.
  • Recording people is your call: in many places everyone has to agree, and Koi doesn't announce itself.

Apple, Zoom, Meet and Teams have captions of their own too, and our guide to live translated captions on a Mac compares them.

What it costs
