How to use the teleprompter

The notch's Tools, Teleprompter: paste your script and press Start. It rolls right under the camera, so you read while looking at the lens.

By Irakli, founder ·

How to do it

  1. Hover the notch, open Tools and click Teleprompter.
  2. Paste or type your script, or click Import for a PDF, Word, Markdown or text file (dropping one on the box works too). The last one is kept for next time.
  3. Pick how it's paced: following your voice, or a steady speed from 60 to 260 words a minute.
  4. Press Start. The notch grows into a black panel under the camera, the line you're on brightest.
  5. Read. Space pauses and goes on, Esc ends it.

Worth knowing

  • Or ask Koi on a call or in the chat box: "open the teleprompter", "put my keynote.pdf in the teleprompter", "make this my script", "start it", "pause", "a bit slower", "follow my voice". Started on a call, it reads once the call ends.
  • An imported file comes in as plain text. A line break stays a line break and a blank line parts sections, and lines of a PDF that only wrap are joined.
  • Following your voice, speed up, slow down or stop to think, and it waits. A skipped sentence or a misheard word doesn't lose it.
  • ↑ and ↓, the trackpad or the mouse go back and on, and ⌘↑ goes to the top.
  • + and − change the speed, or the text size while it follows your voice. ⌘+ and ⌘− always change the text size.
  • Under the pointer, or while it's paused, a strip shows play or pause, the speed, the text size, mirror (for a teleprompter glass) and close.
  • The keys are only taken while it reads and is in front. A click on another app gives them back.
  • While it's on, the notch is hidden from screen capture, so apps like Zoom, Meet and Teams leave it out of what they share or record.
  • Your voice is heard on your Mac by the speech model, a few seconds at a time, only to find your place. Nothing heard is kept, and neither the sound nor the script is sent. Without the microphone it scrolls at a steady speed, and says so.
