The best Raycast AI alternatives for Mac
Raycast AI alternatives for Mac: Koi, Alter, BoltAI, HeyClicky, VoiceOS and Siri AI. Who you can talk to, who takes your own keys, and what each costs.
The best BoltAI alternative is Koi if you'd rather talk than type and don't want to manage API keys: you ask out loud, it sees your screen, answers and can point at or click what you need, with the AI included in the price. For your own keys and local models, Msty Studio, Jan and Alter are the closest. BoltAI itself is from $79 once, and includes no AI.

BoltAI review
BoltAI calls itself a private AI workspace for Mac power users. It's a native Mac app where you chat with many models in one place: projects, multiple threads, forked chats, reusable agents and a prompt library. A global shortcut opens an overlay over any app, you can edit text inline, dictate a request, or capture the screen and get an answer about it. It connects local and remote MCP servers and runs local models through Ollama or LM Studio.
The catch is in its model: BoltAI includes no AI credits. You connect your own accounts with the AI providers and pay them for what you use, or run models on your Mac. Its site says chats are stored on your Mac, never used for training, and requests go straight from the app to the provider you pick. It runs on macOS 13 or later, on Intel and Apple silicon, with an iPhone and iPad app in beta and Windows coming soon.
We make Koi, the first pick below, so read this with that in mind. Prices and features for every app come from their own sites, checked October 21, 2026, in USD.
Pricing
BoltAI is a one-time purchase with a year of updates, and a 14-day free trial (BoltAI pricing):
After the first year the app keeps working, but new updates, support, Cloud Sync and mobile access stop unless you renew, at 40% off the original price for individuals. Students get 50% off the first year. There's a 30-day money-back guarantee. On top of that you pay your AI providers, unless you run everything on local models.

The picks
Best for: Talking instead of typing, with no keys to manage
Koi is for when you'd rather ask than type. Tap Fn + ⌘ once and talk; Koi answers out loud, and the call hangs up after seven quiet seconds or when you tap the keys again. It sees your screen with the question (or only when you ask, or never), circles the button you need, sketches a diagram over the screen, rewrites text you select in any app, and clicks around the Mac with its own pointer. Everyday questions are answered straight away, the web is searched when the answer is current, and hard ones go to a stronger model.
Prefer typing sometimes? Tap Control twice for a chat box that sees your screen, and “/” sends a saved prompt. Each call with Koi is saved as a page under Koi Chats, and it remembers what you tell it, on your Mac. Tap Fn + ⌥ for dictation that runs on your Mac, unlimited on every plan, and Koi also records calls without a bot.
The trade: one price covers the AI, so there's no provider bill, but you can't pick models, bring keys or run the assistant locally, and it needs the internet. Pro is $20 a month, or $192 a year, after a 3-day trial that needs a card. If you like paying once, Lifetime starts at $59 and includes Koi credit worth 20% of the price that never expires. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
Best for: Many models in a launcher, with credits included
Raycast AI gives you Quick AI, AI Chat, AI Commands, AI Extensions, agents with memory and scheduled automations, inside the Raycast launcher. Screen Awareness adds what's on your screen, it takes MCP servers, and it can use your own keys or a local model through Ollama.
Unlike BoltAI, paid plans include AI credits: Pro is $10 a month or $96 a year with 500 credits, and Plus is $20 with top-tier models (Raycast pricing). Free has no AI. Its AI needs macOS Tahoe and Apple silicon. More in Raycast AI alternatives.
Best for: Local and online models, free, with a lifetime upgrade
Msty Studio is a desktop workspace for chatting with local and online models. Its free plan includes local models through Ollama, llama.cpp or MLX, Knowledge Stacks for your files, agent mode, MCP tools, and studios for prompts and personas. Its site lists zero product telemetry.
Aurum, at $149 a year, adds a web version, more providers and power features, and Aurum Lifetime is $349 once (Msty pricing). Some features are marked limited on Free.
Best for: Free and open source, running models offline
Jan downloads and runs open models on your own computer, offline, and can also plug in online models with your own keys. It's free and open source, with a Mac download on its site, Windows in the Microsoft Store and Linux on Flathub. Its memory across chats is marked coming soon.
It's simpler than BoltAI: a chat app for models, without the overlay or inline editing in other apps.
Best for: Voice and actions from the notch, free with your own keys
Alter is closest to BoltAI in spirit, with more voice. It lives in the notch, takes voice and dictation, uses your screen and apps, runs 80+ actions and records meetings. It works with your keys, Ollama or LM Studio.
Free with your own keys, Pro $240 a year with its own cloud models, Lifetime $720 (Alter pricing). One active device at a time. See Alter alternatives.

Privacy
With BoltAI, chats stay on your Mac and requests go straight to the provider you chose, under that provider's terms. On local models, nothing leaves.
With Koi, every call is saved as a page on your Mac, and what Koi remembers stays there too. During a call, your voice goes to the AI provider, with a picture of the screen unless you switch that to only when you ask, or never, and no id for you or your account. Our server keeps what each call cost and none of what was said or shown. The trust page lists it all.
