How to transcribe an audio or video file

Give Koi any sound or video file and it's written down on your Mac, a line under each timestamp, with the sound on the page to play.

By Irakli, founder ·

How to do it

  1. Click the dock's Tools button and pick Transcribe a file, or choose File, Transcribe Audio or Video…
  2. Pick the file. You can also drop it on the Documents window.
  3. A page opens at once and fills in as it's heard. Cancel is at the foot of the page.
  4. When it's done, say yes to "Summarize this recording?" for notes at the top.

Worth knowing

  • m4a, mp3, wav, aiff, caf, mp4, mov, m4v and voice memos all work.
  • The page's menu, Export, has Subtitles (SRT) and (VTT).
  • The file never leaves your Mac. Only a summary you say yes to sends its words.
