The best Typeless alternatives for Mac

If Typeless's $30 monthly price or its cloud-only transcription is the problem, the best alternatives for Mac are Koi and VoiceInk for dictation that stays on your Mac and can be paid for once, Superwhisper for similar AI modes for less, and Wispr Flow for a cheaper cloud app.

Why people look past Typeless

Typeless is good at what it promises: turning messy speech into clear writing. It drops filler words and what you take back mid-sentence, formats lists, changes tone for each app, translates, answers questions, and edits selected text by voice, in 100+ languages, on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

The two reasons to leave are on its own pages. Pro is $12 a member a month billed yearly, but $30 billed monthly, two and a half times as much. And its data controls page says transcription is performed in the cloud, so there's no dictating without a connection.

The free plan has a weekly word limit, but Typeless doesn't publish the number: its pricing page says “limited words each week.” Reviews elsewhere quote different figures, so check the app rather than trust any of them. Every fact here is from each company's own site, checked October 16, 2026. We make Koi, one of the picks, and we didn't run tests.

Stay on Typeless if

  • You pay yearly. $12 a month is less than Koi Pro's $16 a month on a year.
  • You want AI to rewrite what you say, not just tidy it. Koi takes out ums and stammers but doesn't rewrite, and has no per-app tone.
  • You need Linux or Android, or Windows and an iPhone. Koi is Mac only.
  • You translate into languages other than English, or ask it questions as you dictate.
  • You speak a language outside Koi's 57, or need a team plan with SSO.

Koi also has no free plan, no snippets and no audio file transcription.

The best Typeless alternatives for Mac

1. Koi

Best for: Dictation that never goes online, with a one-time price

Koi is the opposite trade to Typeless: less rewriting, nothing sent. Tap Fn + ⌥ in any app and talk. Whisper turns speech into text on your Mac, so it works on a plane, and your voice never leaves the laptop for dictation. Words appear while you speak. The ums, uhs and doubled words go, chat apps and code tools get no full stop at the end, names on your screen come out spelled right, and a word you correct is remembered. It detects 57 languages, and with Small or Base types any of them in English.

Dictation and recorded calls are unlimited on every plan. Pro is $20 a month, or $192 a year, after a 3-day trial that needs a card. Lifetime is paid once, $59 rising to $199, with a small credit for Koi's assistant, which runs on cloud AI models and can rewrite selected text in any app when you ask it to.

2. Superwhisper

Best for: Typeless-style AI modes, with local models when you want them

Superwhisper's AI modes are the nearest thing to Typeless's cleanup and tone per app, but each mode can use a local or a cloud model. Free is unlimited local Whisper dictation; Pro is $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once, and one license covers Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It translates into English on Pro. Intel Macs work best with its cloud models, it says.

3. Wispr Flow

Best for: Another polished cloud app, with a bigger free tier

If the cloud isn't the problem and price is, Wispr Flow does the same kind of cleanup, with a dictionary, snippets and a style per app, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Free is 2,000 words a week on desktop, and Pro is $15 a month or $12 billed yearly, so its monthly price is half of Typeless's. No Linux. See Wispr Flow pricing for every plan.

4. VoiceInk

Best for: Pay $25 once and keep your voice on the Mac

VoiceInk transcribes locally, removes filler words, switches modes by app and can rewrite selected text with optional cloud enhancement that sends text only. $25 once for one Mac, with lifetime updates. Apple silicon only.

5. Spokenly

Best for: Free local dictation, on Linux too

Spokenly is the pick for Typeless users on Linux. Its local Whisper and Parakeet models are free with no account and no limit, on Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone. Local+ is $29 once, and Pro's cloud models are $99.99 a year.

6. Handy

Best for: Free and open source, Mac, Windows and Linux

Handy is free under the MIT license and runs Whisper or Parakeet on your computer. It has almost no settings and no AI rewriting, which is the point.

7. Willow Voice

Best for: Cloud cleanup that learns your style, cheaper by the month

Willow Voice matches your tone across apps and turns rough speech into a draft with Scribe. Pro is $15 a month or $12 billed yearly, on Mac, Windows and iPhone, and its help center lists offline dictation on Individual Pro. See Willow Voice alternatives.

On a yearly plan, Typeless is cheaper than Koi Pro. Paid monthly, it's the most expensive app here by far. If you're on the monthly plan, switching to yearly saves $216 a year before you look at anything else. More pay-once options are in lifetime dictation apps for Mac.

What Typeless sends, and what stays

Typeless is clear about it. Audio goes to the cloud to be transcribed and isn't stored. The app you're in and the relevant text in it go along as context, and both are discarded once the result comes back. Dictation data isn't used to train models, by Typeless or anyone else. Your history stays on your device unless you turn on cloud sync.

That's a careful setup, but it's still a connection every time you speak. If you want none, the apps that transcribe on the Mac are Koi, Superwhisper on local models, VoiceInk, Spokenly and Handy. Our offline dictation apps list has more.
