What Willow Voice gives you free, and what costs

Willow Voice has a generous-sounding free plan with real limits. Its pricing page says Free gets unlimited use of Frontier Mini, the lighter of its two models, plus 20 Scribe uses a week. Its help center adds the numbers: 2,000 words a week and sessions of up to 5 minutes.

PlanPriceWhat it addsBest for
Free$0Frontier Mini, 2,000 words a week, 20 Scribe uses a weekTrying it
Pro$15 a month, or $12 billed yearlyFrontier Pro, unlimited Scribe, style memory, longer dictation, offlineDaily use
Business$35 a month, or $28 billed yearlyEnforced zero data retention, SOC 2 Type II, enforced HIPAA, adminRegulated teams
EnterpriseCustomSSO, MSA and DPA, API accessLarge companies

The line most people miss: offline dictation, which Willow's home page says is “powered entirely by your device,” is listed in the help center under Individual Pro, not Free. The help center also describes a Team Pro plan at $12 a user with three seats minimum, which the pricing page doesn't show. Both pages were checked on October 16, 2026, so check them again before you buy.

Stay on Willow Voice if

  • You dictate on Windows or your iPhone too. Koi is Mac only.
  • Scribe is how you write: rough speech in, a polished draft out. Koi doesn't rewrite dictation.
  • You use Shortcuts for phrases you say often. Koi has no snippets.
  • You need HIPAA and enforced zero data retention for a team, on Business.
  • You speak a language outside Koi's 57, or you're happy within the free plan. Koi has no free plan.

Koi doesn't transcribe audio files either. We make Koi, so weigh our take on it accordingly; everything about the others is from their own sites, checked October 16, 2026, and we didn't run tests.

The best Willow Voice alternatives for Mac

1. Koi

Best for: Offline dictation on every plan, plus call recording

On Koi, offline isn't a tier. Dictation always runs on your Mac with Whisper, so it works with no connection on every plan, with no weekly word count. Tap Fn + ⌥ in any app and talk; words appear while you speak. The ums and stammers are removed on the Mac, names on your screen come out spelled right, and a word you fix joins your own list, a bit like Willow's learning dictionary.

Tap Fn + ⌃ to record a call with no bot, your side and theirs written apart, on the Mac, with a video of the screen. Or pick In person for a meeting or class in the room. Recordings are unlimited too. Koi's assistant, for questions about your screen or rewriting selected text, uses cloud AI models.

The trade: Koi Pro is $20 a month to Willow Pro's $15, after a 3-day trial that needs a card, or Lifetime from $59 once. It's Mac only, detects 57 languages to Willow's 100+, and doesn't match your writing style.

2. Superwhisper

Best for: Local dictation free, style through modes

Superwhisper's Free plan is unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, so offline costs nothing. Pro adds AI modes for tone and format, cloud models and realtime transcription for $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android under one license.

3. Wispr Flow

Best for: The same price and feel, with Android and a notetaker

Wispr Flow is Willow's closest rival: cloud cleanup, a learning dictionary, snippets, a style per app, and the same $15 a month or $12 yearly for Pro. It adds Android and a Notetaker for meetings with no bot. It has no offline mode at all. Every plan is in Wispr Flow pricing.

4. VoiceInk

Best for: Offline dictation for $25 once

VoiceInk runs on your Mac, removes filler words, keeps a dictionary and expands phrases you set up. $25 once for one Mac, lifetime updates, a 14-day refund. Apple silicon only.

5. Typeless

Best for: AI that turns messy speech into clear writing, on Linux and Android too

If Scribe is what you'd miss, Typeless turns messy speech into clear writing, changes tone per app and translates. It runs in the cloud on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Pro is $12 a month billed yearly, or $30 billed monthly. See Typeless alternatives.

6. Monologue

Best for: Dictation, voice notes and meetings across Apple devices

Monologue formats for each app, keeps voice notes with summaries, and records meetings with no bot, on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Watch. Pro is $15 a month or $144 a year. Local transcription is Apple silicon only, and formatting still needs a connection. More in Monologue alternatives.

7. Spokenly

Best for: Free offline dictation with no account

Spokenly's local models are free with no account and no limit, on Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone. Local+ is $29 once, Pro $99.99 a year.

Willow's privacy, plan by plan

Willow's home page says it's SOC 2 Type II certified and HIPAA compliant, with zero data retention and end-to-end encryption. The pricing page is more specific about who gets what: enforced privacy mode with zero data retention, SOC 2 Type II and enforced HIPAA are listed on Business, at $35 a month. If those guarantees are why you chose Willow, read the plan you're on, not the home page.

The apps that never send dictation anywhere sidestep the question: Koi, VoiceInk, Spokenly's local models and Superwhisper on local models. Our offline dictation apps list goes through each.
