What StudyFetch does

StudyFetch turns your course material (slides, lectures, class notes, PDFs and videos) into flashcards, quizzes, practice tests and notes. Live Lecture records a class and writes notes while you listen. Sparky, its AI tutor, answers questions about your material, and a Study Plan builds a schedule up to your exams, with a cram mode.

StudyFetch says getting started is free, and that paid plans unlock more generations and longer files. Its App Store page lists Premium at $19.99 a month, $29 a quarter or $96 a year, plus calls with the tutor sold by the hour: $7.49 for one hour, $25 for five. The app is on iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later), the site works in a browser, and it mentions Android. No Mac app is listed, and we couldn't open a pricing page on its site.

We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Every fact about another app comes from its own site or app store page, checked October 21, 2026. We didn't run tests.

Why people look for a StudyFetch alternative

  • Premium is $19.99 a month in the App Store, and tutor calls cost extra by the hour.
  • They want a real Mac app for long study sessions, not a browser tab.
  • They want reviews spaced over weeks. StudyFetch's pages don't mention spaced repetition.
  • They'd rather their lectures and notes stayed on their own computer.
  • They want their notes to be documents they can edit, export and keep.

When StudyFetch is still the better pick

Stay on StudyFetch if

  • You want a tutor you can talk to on your phone. Koi has no iPhone or Android app.
  • You like a study plan built to your exam dates, with a cram mode. Koi doesn't plan your revision.
  • You study in groups through StudyFetch. Koi has no groups or shared decks.
  • Your school gives you StudyFetch. Koi has no school plan or student price.
  • You want practice tests and study games. Koi has flashcards and a multiple-choice quiz.

6 StudyFetch alternatives, ranked

1. Koi

Best for: Recorded lectures, notes and flashcards on a Mac, with a tutor that sees your screen

Koi does the three things people use StudyFetch for, in a native Mac app. Record a class: tap Fn + ⌃, pick In person, and Koi writes down what's said on your Mac, keeping the sound on the page. Say yes when it ends and the page gets a summary, the key points, flashcards and what the class was told to do. Import a PDF, Word file or slides and choose Make study notes for a summary, key points, flashcards and a quiz.

The tutor is Study mode. Tap Fn + ⌘ and ask about the problem on your screen: Koi circles where your working went wrong, asks what you'd try next and draws only the next step, and every miss becomes a flashcard. Cards come back when they're due, spaced out the way Anki does it.

Recording is unlimited on every plan, and calls with Koi aren't sold by the hour; they count toward the Koi usage in your plan. Where it loses: no phone, no study plan, no groups, no free plan. Pro is $20 a month or $192 a year after a 3-day trial, or Lifetime from $59 once.

2. Knowt

Best for: The cheapest way to keep AI notes and free study modes

Knowt has free Learn, practice tests and spaced repetition on your own sets. Free gets one AI summary a month, and a recorded lecture counts toward it. Ultra, $24.99 a month or $149.99 a year, makes them unlimited and adds Kai, a voice tutor. Web, iPhone and Android. More in our Knowt alternatives.

3. RemNote

Best for: Notes and cards with a lecture recorder, on every device

RemNote has apps for Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android. Pro with AI, $18 a month or $216 a year, adds a lecture recorder, AI flashcards, quizzes and summaries from PDFs, and AI grading. Free has unlimited notes and cards with 5 AI cards. It takes time to learn. See our RemNote alternatives.

4. Gizmo

Best for: AI quizzes on your phone, with spaced repetition

Gizmo makes flashcards from PDFs, notes, YouTube links and recorded lessons, and quizzes you with spaced repetition and an AI tutor. iPhone, iPad and Android; the App Store lists Gizmo Unlimited purchases from $6.99 to $309.99. More in our Gizmo alternatives.

5. Quizlet

Best for: Shared sets and Learn mode

Quizlet builds sets from your notes and has Learn and practice tests, on the web, iPhone and iPad. The App Store lists Plus from $9.99 as an in-app purchase. No Mac app. See our Quizlet alternatives for Mac.

6. Anki

Best for: Free spaced repetition that lasts

Anki is free on Mac, Windows, Linux and Android, with free sync; AnkiMobile is $24.99 once on iPhone. No AI, no lectures, just the best-known spaced repetition there is, with your cards on your device.

How to record a lecture and study it in Koi

  1. Tap Fn + ⌃, or click Record on Koi's dock, and pick In person.
  2. Koi listens through your Mac's microphone and writes down what's said, on your Mac, as it goes.
  3. Stop it when the class ends. The page asks whether to summarize it.
  4. Say yes. The transcript's words go to Koi's AI, which adds a summary, the key points, flashcards and what the class was told to do.
  5. Click the Study pill over the flashcards and work through them. Come back when they're due.

Say no, and nothing from the recording leaves your Mac. Ask your lecturer before you record, and check your school's rules: Koi doesn't announce itself to the room. More in how to record a lecture on a Mac, or on recording with Koi.

Sparky vs Koi's Study mode

Sparky is a voice tutor: StudyFetch's App Store page calls it a voice-to-voice AI tutor you can talk with on any topic, and it can build a study plan from what you upload. Longer calls are sold by the hour.

Koi's Study mode is a switch, in Settings under Koi or in the menu bar. With it on, a call with Koi teaches rather than answers: Koi looks at the problem on your screen, circles the step that went wrong, and asks what you'd try next. It keeps a page called “What I got wrong” with a flashcard for each miss. Your voice and, unless you turn it off, a picture of your screen go to the AI provider while the call lasts. See our guide to an AI tutor that sees your screen.

Where your lectures end up

StudyFetch, Knowt, RemNote and Gizmo work from what you upload to them, and keep it in your account so it's on every device. Koi writes a recording down on your Mac and keeps the sound, the transcript and the notes in a page there, with no sync. Only the words go to Koi's AI, and only when you ask for notes. Study notes from a file send its words, up to 120,000 characters, and are kept only in the new page.
