Koi or Wispr Flow: the honest answer

  • Pick Wispr Flow if you want a free plan, apps on Windows, iPhone and Android, more than 100 languages, snippets, team plans, or AI that rewrites your words with a style per app.
  • Pick Koi if you're on a Mac and want dictation that never leaves it: offline, unlimited, words appearing while you speak. Plus calls recorded on the Mac with a video, and an assistant that sees your screen.
  • Wispr Flow is cheaper by the month. Koi is the only one of the two you can pay for once.

This is our own app against the best-known one in the category, so we've tried hard to put Wispr's wins first. Every fact about Wispr Flow is from its own site, pricing page and help center, checked October 16, 2026. We didn't run accuracy tests on either.

Where Wispr Flow is better than Koi

  • It's free to start. 2,000 words a week costs nothing and needs no card. Koi has no free plan.
  • It's everywhere. Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, synced. Koi is a Mac app only.
  • It rewrites. Filler words, mid-sentence corrections and a style per app, done for you. Koi tidies, but what you say is what it types.
  • Snippets. Say a shortcut and get a full block of text. Koi has none.
  • More languages: 100+ against Koi's 57.
  • Teams. Shared dictionaries and snippets on Pro, SSO and HIPAA with a BAA on Growth, SCIM and audit logs on Enterprise.
  • Cheaper monthly: $15 against $20, and 50% off for students.

Where Koi is better than Wispr Flow

  • Your voice stays on the Mac. Koi's dictation runs Whisper on the laptop and never goes online. Wispr says its transcription always happens in the cloud.
  • It works with no connection. Plane, train or bad Wi-Fi.
  • Words appear while you speak, and none get taken back. Wispr types the finished text when you stop.
  • No word counting. Dictation is unlimited on every plan.
  • Calls with video. Record an online call and Koi keeps your side and theirs apart, plus a video of the screen, all on the Mac. Or record a meeting or class in the room.
  • An assistant that sees the screen. Ask what an error means and Koi circles the answer, draws on the screen, or clicks for you.
  • You can pay once. Lifetime is a single payment; Wispr has no one-time plan.

What using Koi looks like

Tap Fn + ⌥ in any app and talk; tap again or go quiet to stop. Dictation runs on Whisper on your Mac: Small is built in, Base and Large v3 Turbo are a download away. Say “new line” or “clear all” and it does them, and a line break goes in as ⇧↩, so a chat box adds a line instead of sending.

Tap Fn + ⌃ and pick Online call or In person to record. When it ends, Koi asks whether to write its notes, and only with a yes do the transcript's words go to a cloud AI model. Tap Fn + ⌘ to talk to Koi, which also runs on cloud AI models while the call lasts, with the screen only when you allow it.
