Calendar comes free with every Mac. Its Mac guide shows events from different accounts, like iCloud or Google, in one place, shares calendars, sends invitations to friends and coworkers, and can show your scheduled reminders beside your events. With iCloud, it's the same calendar on your iPhone.
People look for an alternative when they want to type “lunch with Sam Friday at 1” and be done, a calendar in the menu bar or the notch, tasks in the same view, booking links, or a calendar that adds what was agreed on a call.
We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Koi is first below because it's ours. Every fact about another app comes from that app's own site, its GitHub page, its App Store listing or Apple's guide, checked November 4, 2026. We didn't run tests.

The picks
Best for: A calendar in the notch that you fill by voice
Koi is an all-in-one Mac assistant, and its calendar is one click from the notch: the week or the month, each thing in its kind's colour. Connect Apple Calendar, Apple Reminders and as many Google accounts as you have, and they sit beside Koi's own. Change them in Koi's editor, attach files, and invite guests from the Google account you pick: Google emails them, and their answers show in Koi.
Say “put the investor call in my calendar for Friday at 3pm New York time” and it's there, at the right time where you are. After a recorded call, Koi offers the dates you agreed on. Reminders come in the notch, with Join for a Google Meet call. A click at the foot of the open notch lists what's still to come today.
Where it loses: Koi's own calendar stays on your Mac, with no iPhone app, so put what you need on your phone in Apple or Google Calendar. No booking links, no weather. It isn't sold on its own: it comes with Koi Pro or Lifetime, after a 3-day free trial (card needed).
Best for: Typing events in plain words, on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Windows
Fantastical, by Flexibits, takes events in plain words, like “Lunch with Sarah at 1pm tomorrow”, on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Windows. It has a free version with a simple calendar for the calendars you already have. Premium adds the rest, like scheduling, travel time and Apple Watch, with a 14-day free trial. Flexibits' site shows prices only at checkout; the Mac App Store listing lists Premium as in-app purchases of $6.99 and $56.99. It needs macOS 12.4 or later. More in our Fantastical alternatives.
Best for: Tasks in the calendar, and a menu bar mini calendar
BusyCal puts tasks on their due dates in the calendar, carried forward until they're done. It takes events in plain words in ten languages, has a menu bar mini calendar with your busy times, and an 8-day weather forecast. It runs on macOS 12 or later, and on iOS. It's $49.99 from its site, with a 14-day free trial, or in Setapp.
Best for: Free, with booking links and Notion beside your events
Notion Calendar is free, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It syncs Google, Outlook and iCloud calendars, joins meetings from the menu bar, shares a booking link with your free times, and shows Notion deadlines beside your events. More in our Notion Calendar alternatives.
Best for: Planning your tasks into your week
Morgen connects nearly every calendar, Apple Calendar included, and pulls in tasks from Notion, Todoist, Linear, ClickUp and Obsidian. Its AI Planner blocks time for them, and it has booking pages. It's $30 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, after a 14-day trial with no card; there's no free plan.
Best for: A tiny calendar in the menu bar
Itsycal is a tiny menu bar calendar that works with the Mac's Calendar app: it shows and makes events, shows and ticks off reminders, joins virtual meetings and shows ISO week numbers. It's open source under the MIT license, with a download for macOS 11 and later.
