How to record a Webex meeting on your Mac

As the host, click Record and choose the option for your computer: Webex saves an MP4 to your Home folder, if your site admin allows local recording, and everyone must consent first. Only the host or a cohost can record, so as a guest, ask the host, or record your Mac with everyone's OK.

How do you record a Webex meeting on a Mac?

As the host, click Record and choose the option for your computer. Webex saves an MP4 to your Home folder on a Mac, as long as your site administrator allows local recording, and everyone in the meeting has to consent before it records. Paid plans can record to the cloud instead.

If you're not the host or a cohost, Webex's own advice is to ask the host to record. To keep your own copy anyway, you record your Mac, with everyone's OK.

The Webex details come from Webex's help center, checked October 16, 2026. We make Koi, a Mac app that records calls, and say below where it fits.

How to record a Webex meeting on your Mac

From Webex's local recording article:

  1. Start the meeting as the host, in the Webex app.
  2. Make sure Computer audio is your audio option, or the recording won't have sound.
  3. Get everyone's consent. Webex says everyone taking part has to agree before a meeting is recorded, summarized or transcribed.
  4. Click Record and choose the option for your computer, then click Record to begin.
  5. To take a break and keep one file, click Record, then Pause, and Resume later.
  6. Click Stop to end it. The file is saved when the meeting ends.

On a Mac, recordings go to your Home folder by default, which you can open in Finder, or to a folder you choose. Webex says to keep them on a local folder, not a network one, or they won't play back. The MP4 has the audio, the video and anything shared, but not the chat or participants panels, transcripts or files shared with Share File.

No option for your computer? Your site administrator may have turned local recording off. Ask them, or use the cloud.

Recording a Webex meeting to the cloud

Cloud recording is on Webex Starter, Plus and Business, and on Enterprise when the site administrator sets it up. It isn't on the Free plan. Recordings are saved as MP4 to User Hub and can take up to 24 hours to show up. Check Webex's plan page for whether your plan records to your computer.

Can a participant record a Webex meeting?

Only the host can record, or a cohost who takes over when the host isn't there. If you were invited, Webex says to ask the host to record. They can share the file or the User Hub link afterwards.

A recorder on your Mac doesn't go through Webex, so the button doesn't matter to it. The consent still does: Webex says everyone must agree before its own recording, and the same rule applies to yours.

How to screen record a Webex meeting with sound

  1. Press Shift-Command-5.
  2. Choose Record Selected Window (macOS Tahoe 26 or later) and pick Webex, or Record Entire Screen.
  3. Click Options. Pick a microphone for your own voice, and on macOS 27 Golden Gate or later, Include System Audio for the others.
  4. Click Record. To stop, click Stop in the menu bar or press Command-Control-Esc.

Per Apple's how-to, Include System Audio needs macOS 27 or later. Earlier versions only record a microphone, so the others are faint, or missing with headphones on. There's no transcript. For other ways to capture the Mac's sound, see how to record internal audio on a Mac.

Apps that record Webex from your Mac

  • Audio Hijack lists Cisco Webex among the call apps it records out of the box, and can transcribe on your Mac. $69.
  • MacWhisper Pro lists Webex among the apps it detects for meeting recording, in its direct-download version, and transcribes on your Mac.

Koi is built for Zoom, Meet and Teams calls

Koi's Record calls records your microphone as You and what the Mac plays as Them, transcribes both on your Mac, films the screen if you pick Audio and video, and with your yes writes a summary, your to-dos and a follow-up email. It's made for online calls in apps like Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, and no bot joins.

Koi's Online call records whatever app the Mac plays, Webex included, and the dock offers to record when a Webex meeting starts. For the others, see recording a Zoom meeting, recording a Teams meeting and every way to record a meeting on a Mac.

Is it legal to record a Webex meeting?

It depends on where you and the others are. In many places everyone on a call has to agree, and Webex builds that into its own recording: everyone has to consent first. This isn't legal advice.

The Screenshot toolbar and recording apps don't ask anyone. If you use one, ask at the start, wait for a yes, and don't record if anyone says no.

Why can't I record my Webex meeting?

  • You're not the host or a cohost. Ask the host to record.
  • Your site administrator hasn't allowed local recording. Ask them, or record to the cloud on a paid plan.
  • You're on the Free plan. Check Webex's plan page for whether your plan records to your computer.
  • The recording has no sound: choose Computer audio as your audio option before you record.
  • Your screen recording is missing the others: on macOS Tahoe 26 and earlier the Screenshot toolbar only records a microphone.
