How do you record a Discord call on a Mac?

Record your Mac, or add a recording bot to the server. The Mac's own Screenshot toolbar records the Discord window with the call's sound on macOS 27 or later. For a server's voice channel, the Craig bot joins and records each person on their own track. And OBS, which is free, records the Discord app's sound on older versions of macOS too.

  • A quick video of the call, on macOS 27: the Screenshot toolbar with Include System Audio.
  • A podcast or a game session with everyone on their own track: Craig, in a server voice channel.
  • Full control, for free: OBS, with Discord's sound and your microphone as sources.
  • Audio files of any call app: Audio Hijack, which lists Discord.

Whichever you pick, ask the people in the call first. The details below come from Apple's, Craig's, OBS's and Rogue Amoeba's own pages, checked October 16, 2026. We make Koi, a Mac app that records calls, and say below where it fits.

How to screen record a Discord call with sound

  1. Join the call in the Discord app on your Mac.
  2. Press Shift-Command-5.
  3. Choose Record Selected Window (macOS Tahoe 26 or later) and pick Discord, or Record Entire Screen.
  4. Click Options. Pick a microphone for your voice, and on macOS 27 Golden Gate or later, Include System Audio for everyone else.
  5. Click Record. To stop, click Stop in the menu bar or press Command-Control-Esc.

The .mov lands on your desktop. Per Apple's how-to, Include System Audio needs macOS 27 or later. On Tahoe 26 and earlier, a microphone is the only option, so with headphones on, nobody else is in the file. Older guides send you to Soundflower for this, which doesn't support Apple silicon Macs. For the current options, see how to record internal audio on a Mac.

How to record a Discord voice channel with Craig

Craig is a recording bot for Discord. It joins a server's voice or stage channel and records a separate audio track for each person who speaks, which is why podcasters and game groups use it. Per its site:

  1. Add Craig to your server from craig.chat.
  2. Join the voice channel.
  3. Start a recording with Craig's /join command. Craig joins the channel you're in.
  4. Stop it with /stop. Craig keeps the recording for 7 days.

Craig's site shows it named “[RECORDING] Craig” while it records, so people in the channel can see it. Recordings can run up to 6 hours and are kept for 7 days. Craig's site talks about server voice and stage channels, not direct calls. Paid supporter tiers add things like cloud uploads and transcripts.

How to record a Discord call with OBS

OBS Studio is free and open source. Its macOS audio guide says OBS 30 and later can capture an app's sound natively on macOS 13 and later:

  1. Open OBS. In Sources, click + and add macOS Audio Capture, set to the Discord app.
  2. Add an Audio Input Capture source for your microphone.
  3. Add a window or screen source too, if you want video.
  4. Click Start Recording, and Stop Recording at the end.

It's a lot of knobs for one call, but nothing beats it on price or control.

Other apps that record Discord calls

  • Audio Hijack lists Discord among the call apps it records out of the box, and can transcribe on your Mac. $69.
  • MacWhisper Pro lists Discord among the apps it detects for meeting recording, in its direct-download version.

Koi is built for Zoom, Meet and Teams calls

Koi's Record calls records your microphone as You and what the Mac plays as Them, transcribes both on your Mac, films the screen if you pick Audio and video, and with your yes writes a summary and your to-dos. It's made for online calls in apps like Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, with no bot joining. It doesn't split a call into a track per person the way Craig does.

Koi's Online call records whatever app the Mac plays, Discord included, and the dock offers to record when a Discord call starts. For the other call apps, see every way to record a meeting on a Mac.

Is it OK to record a Discord call?

Only with everyone agreeing. In many places recording a call needs everyone's consent, and servers often have rules of their own. This isn't legal advice.

A bot like Craig is visible in the channel. The Screenshot toolbar, OBS and Audio Hijack aren't. Either way, say it in the channel before you start, ask again when someone new joins, and don't record anyone who says no.

Why is my Discord recording missing voices?

  • You're on macOS Tahoe 26 or earlier, where the Screenshot toolbar only records a microphone.
  • OBS has your microphone but no macOS Audio Capture source for Discord, or the reverse.
  • The recording app isn't allowed to hear the Mac. Check System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording.
  • Craig isn't in your channel. Start it from the voice channel you're in, or name the channel.
