Tactiq gives you a live transcript in the browser and no recording. If you want the call itself too, Koi records any call on your Mac with no bot, keeps the audio or a video of the screen, and writes the transcript there, without a Chrome extension. MacWhisper also transcribes meetings on your Mac. If you want a cloud notetaker with recordings, Bluedot, tl;dv and Fathom are the usual swaps, and Jamie keeps your data in Europe.
We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Koi is Mac only, writes You and Them instead of each speaker's name, and has no HubSpot workflow or team spaces. Every fact about the other apps comes from their own sites and help pages, checked October 21, 2026. We didn't run tests.
Tactiq
Tactiq started as a free Chrome extension, and that's still the main way in. It transcribes Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams live, with no bot joining, in 60+ languages. Its homepage is clear that it doesn't record or store the audio: the transcript is made as you talk and saved as text.
For calls outside the browser there's now a Mac app. Tactiq's help center says it covers Zoom desktop meetings, Teams calls in the Teams desktop app and Slack huddles in the Slack desktop app, capturing audio through macOS rather than joining as a participant. Each meeting is uploaded to your Tactiq dashboard when the call ends. Google Meet, and Teams in a browser, still need the Chrome extension.
Tactiq's AI features run on OpenAI's enterprise API, and it says OpenAI doesn't train on that data. It lists a SOC 2 Type II attestation, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA. Transcripts can go to Slack, Notion, Linear, Google Drive and HubSpot.
Why switch
From Tactiq's pricing page and its own descriptions:
If a text transcript in your browser is all you need, Tactiq is cheap and quick to set up. People move on when they want to rewatch a call, or want it to stay on their own computer.
The picks
Best for: The recording and the transcript, on your Mac
Koi records your Mac, not a browser tab, so it works with Zoom, Meet, Teams, FaceTime, Slack or anything else that makes sound. Tap Fn + ⌃, pick Online call, then Audio only or Audio and video. Your microphone is You, what the Mac plays is Them, and each stretch of talk is written down on your Mac as it pauses. The audio file, or a video of the screen with both sides' sound, is saved on your Mac with the transcript. No bot, no extension, no upload.
When it ends, Koi asks “Summarize this call?”. With a yes, you get a title, a short summary, your own to-dos as checkboxes, and a follow-up email, and only the transcript's words go to Koi's AI. There are no AI credits to count for recording: calls are unlimited on every plan. On macOS 26 or later, Koi can also show what the others say in your language as live captions, translated on your Mac.
Pro is $20 a month or $192 a year after a 3-day trial with a card; Lifetime is paid once: $59 for the first 25 buyers, rising to $199. Weakness: more expensive than Tactiq Pro, Mac only (macOS 14 or later), and no speaker names or CRM.
Best for: Local meeting transcripts, paid once
MacWhisper records meetings in Zoom, Teams, Webex, Skype, Chime, Discord and more, with no bot, and transcribes with local models on your Mac. It also handles audio and video files. Pro is a one-time license, €64 on its site.
Weakness: Mac only, and €64 up front.
Best for: A Chrome extension that also records video
Bluedot works much like Tactiq, from a Chrome extension with no bot, but it records the call, with Mac, Windows and phone apps too. It transcribes in 100+ languages and stores data on AWS. Basic is $14 a user a month billed yearly, audio only, and video starts on Pro at $20.
Weakness: Free is only 5 meetings in total.
Best for: Free recordings for Meet, Zoom and Teams
tl;dv records Meet, Zoom and Teams with a bot, or bot-free from its Mac and Windows app. Free has unlimited recordings and transcriptions in 30+ languages, with full AI notes on 10 meetings. Data is hosted in the EU. Pro is €29 a seat a month, or €18 billed yearly.
Weakness: bot-free recordings are audio only, and Free ones expire in 3 months.
Best for: Unlimited free recordings with summaries
Fathom's Free plan lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions, instant AI summaries, clips and search. Its bot joins by default, or you can record bot-free on a Mac, in beta. Premium is $20 a month, or $16 yearly.
Weakness: everything lives in Fathom's cloud.
Best for: Polished notes, data kept in Europe
Jamie captures your device's audio with no bot, on Mac, Windows and phones, in 99+ languages, and keeps data in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. Like Tactiq, it doesn't keep audio. Free is 10 AI notes a month; Plus is €21 a month.
Weakness: no recording, and 30 minutes per meeting on Free.

Fair is fair
Stay on Tactiq if
Koi is the better pick when the transcript isn't enough: when you want to hear how something was said, rewatch a screen share, or keep a call that shouldn't go to anyone's cloud. It's also more than a call recorder. The same app has unlimited dictation in any app, and transcribes audio and video files on your Mac, with SRT or VTT subtitles to export.
Local
For the transcription part, yes. Tactiq's transcript is made in its cloud. Koi and MacWhisper turn speech into text on your Mac, so the audio isn't uploaded to become text.
Koi does need a connection to start a recording, to check that you have a plan, and if you say yes to notes, the transcript's words go to its cloud AI. Say no, or switch the question off in Settings, and nothing from the recording leaves your Mac. For more apps like this, see local meeting notes apps for Mac.
Choosing
Any bot-free tool leaves telling people to you, so ask at the start of the call. When you're ready, compare Koi's plans.
