The best Pomodoro timer apps for Mac in 2026

Session, Flow and Be Focused are the best Pomodoro apps for Mac, each free to start, with app and site blocking in their paid tiers. The Clock app is built in, and Koi counts a Pomodoro down right in your MacBook's notch.

Which Pomodoro timer should you use on a Mac?

If you want it to block distracting apps and sites, Session, Flow or Be Focused. All three are free to start, and blocking comes with their paid tier. If you only need a countdown, the Clock app is already on your Mac, though it has no Pomodoro mode.

If you'd rather see the time left without a window or a menu bar icon, that's the one we built into Koi: a timer, Pomodoro, a stopwatch and a reminder, counting down in your MacBook's notch.

We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Koi is first below because it's ours, and it's the only one here that comes inside a Mac assistant. Every fact about another app comes from that app's own site, its App Store listing or Apple's guide, checked November 4, 2026. We didn't run tests.

What to look for in a Pomodoro app for Mac

  • Focus and break lengths you can set, and rounds that follow each other by themselves.
  • Where the time left shows: a window, the menu bar or the notch.
  • Blocking distracting apps and websites while you focus, if you need it.
  • Stats on how much you focused, if numbers keep you going.
  • Sync to your iPhone, if you start on one and finish on the other.
  • What the free version leaves out. Most put blocking behind a subscription.

The best Pomodoro timer apps for Mac in 2026

1. Koi

Best for: A Pomodoro timer in the notch, in an app you'd use anyway

Koi is an all-in-one Mac assistant that lives in your notch. Hover it, open Tools, then Timer, and pick Timer, Pomodoro, Stopwatch or Reminder. Drag along the minutes and press Start. Pomodoro takes a focus of 5 to 60 minutes, a break of 3, 5, 10 or 15, and 1 to 8 rounds, and goes from focus to break and back by itself until the last round.

While it runs, the folded notch shows a timer on its left and the time left on its right, so you see it over any app. When it's up, the Mac plays its Glass sound and the notch says so. A reminder says the words you typed. On a call you can just say “set a timer for twenty minutes”.

Where it loses: it doesn't block apps or sites, keeps no stats, runs one timer at a time and has no iPhone app. A timer stops if Koi quits. It isn't sold on its own: it comes with Koi Pro or Lifetime, after a 3-day free trial (card needed).

2. Session

Best for: Blocking distractions, with your calendar beside the timer

Session is a Pomodoro timer for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Free gives you unlimited sessions and breaks, analytics from the past 2 days and your calendar events inside the app.

Pro is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with 7 days free. It adds your own session and break lengths, the full log, blocking apps and websites on the Mac, muting Slack, sync between devices, global shortcuts and Apple Calendar events made from your sessions.

3. Flow

Best for: The cheapest Pro, with app and web blocking

Flow is a simple Pomodoro focus timer for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The free version has the interval timer, many lengths to choose from, stats and graphs, break reminders and iCloud sync of your stats, with no ads and no sign-up.

Pro is $1.49 a month. It adds fully custom lengths and cycles, app and web blocking, Apple Calendar sync, timer sync and export.

4. Be Focused

Best for: Tasks and a timer together, with a lifetime option

Be Focused, by Denys Ievenko, is free on the Mac App Store, for macOS 12 or later. You make tasks with notes, tags and due dates, set work and break lengths and a daily goal, and export your reports as CSV. It has widgets, global hotkeys and Shortcuts.

Pro blocks distracting apps and websites while you work. It's $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $39.99 once, as in-app purchases.

5. Apple Clock

Best for: Free, built in, for a plain countdown

The Clock app comes with macOS. It has a world clock, alarms, a stopwatch to a hundredth of a second, and one or more timers at once. Apple's guide lists no Pomodoro mode, so focus and breaks are timers you start yourself.

What's the best free Pomodoro timer for Mac?

Flow's free version has the most: the timer, stats and graphs, and iCloud sync of your stats. Session's free tier keeps only 2 days of analytics but shows your calendar. Be Focused is free with tasks and reports. None of the three blocks apps or sites for free. For a plain countdown, the Clock app is already on your Mac.

Can a timer show in the MacBook notch?

Yes. Koi counts down in the folded notch, the time left in its right wing, over what's playing, so you see it in every app. Open the notch and Home shows the timer big, with pause and stop. On a Mac without a notch, Koi draws one of its own. More on what else sits there in the best notch apps for Mac.

Which Pomodoro app should you pick?

  • Blocking distractions, and your calendar beside the timer? Session.
  • Blocking for the lowest price? Flow.
  • Tasks with the timer, and paying once? Be Focused.
  • Just a countdown, nothing to install? The Clock app.
  • The time left in your notch, in an app that also does your dictation, calls and notes? Koi.

Koi starts with a 3-day free trial (card needed), then Pro is $12 a month, or Lifetime is $99 once. See Koi's plans, or everything in Koi's notch.

Tell Koi when. It does it then.

Give Koi a task and a time: the news every weekday at 8, five new words a day, a website checked for what's new. It runs on your Mac and the notch says when.
