Yoodli alternatives for speaking practice

For practising out loud, Orai and PowerPoint's free Speaker Coach are the closest Yoodli alternatives; for private feedback in meetings, Teams has Speaker Coach. Koi's coach is narrower: after a call you record in your second language, its notes show a few things you said put more naturally and words to practise.

What Yoodli is today

Yoodli has grown from a speech coach into a platform for AI roleplays: you practise a sales call, an interview or a hard conversation with an AI, and it scores you on things like discovery questions, objection handling or clarity. For your real calls, its online meetings page says you can use it privately during a conversation, get nudges to slow down or hit your talking points, and get a report afterwards with pacing, filler words and suggestions. It lists Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Slack among its integrations.

From Yoodli's pricing page:

  • Starter: start free, with 5 lifetime sessions. A roleplay longer than 30 seconds counts as one.
  • Pro: $8 a month billed yearly, up to 10 roleplays a week, plus feedback on uploaded call recordings.
  • Advanced: $20 a month billed yearly, unlimited roleplays, and your data kept out of AI training.
  • On Starter and Pro, session data may be used to improve the platform.
  • Team and Enterprise plans are priced on request.

People look elsewhere when 5 free sessions run out fast, when they don't want their practice data used for training, when they want a one-time price, or when what they need is narrower than a coaching platform: feedback on calls they take in a second language, say.

We make Koi, one of the apps below, so read this with that in mind, and read the Koi part closely: its speaking coach is much narrower than Yoodli. Facts about the others come from their own sites and help pages, checked October 21, 2026.

What Koi's speaking coach does, and doesn't

Koi is a Mac app that records calls, and the coach lives in a call's notes. Here is all of it:

  • You record a call with Koi: tap the keys, pick Online call. Koi writes it down on your Mac as You and Them.
  • When the call ends, Koi asks whether to summarize it. Only with a yes do the transcript's words (never the audio) go to Koi's AI.
  • With Coach how I speak turned on, those notes add a few things you said, put more naturally, and words worth practising.
  • It's built for calls you take in your second language.

What it doesn't do: no roleplays, no practice sessions with an AI, no live nudges during the call, no scores, no count of filler words, no pace in words per minute, no eye contact or video analysis, and no progress dashboard. If that's what you use Yoodli for, Koi isn't a replacement.

4 Yoodli alternatives, by what you want to practise

1. Koi

Best for: Learning from real calls you take in your second language

Koi works on the calls you actually have, not rehearsals. Tap Fn + ⌃ on Zoom, Meet, Teams or any call app, pick Online call, and Koi records it on your Mac with no bot: speech becomes text on your Mac, with your microphone as You and the Mac's sound as Them. Say yes to the notes and you get a summary, your to-dos, a follow-up email if you want one, and, with the coach on, a few of your own sentences put more naturally plus words to practise.

For the other side of a second-language call, Koi can show what the others say in your language at the bottom of the screen, translated on your Mac by Apple's Translation, on macOS 26 or later. And you can dictate in your language and get English typed.

The weakness, plainly: none of Yoodli's practice features. Koi is Mac only. Recording calls is unlimited on every plan; Pro is $20 a month or $192 a year after a 3-day trial that needs a card, or Lifetime from $59, paid once. Coaching notes count as Koi usage.

2. Orai

Best for: Short daily practice on your phone

Orai is a public speaking coach you practise with out loud, from a script or freestyle, and it scores filler words, pace, clarity, energy, confidence and conciseness, with a transcript and playback. It's free to download on iPhone and Android, with a web app too; on the App Store the paid options are $12.99 a month, $49.99 a year or $99.99 for life.

The weakness: practice only, not your real calls. The App Store lists it as designed for iPhone; it runs on Apple silicon Macs but isn't verified for macOS.

3. PowerPoint Speaker Coach

Best for: Rehearsing a presentation, free

Speaker Coach in PowerPoint listens as you rehearse your slides and reports on pacing, pitch, filler words, informal speech, euphemisms and culturally sensitive terms, and notices when you just read the slide. Microsoft says it's in free preview for everyone with a Microsoft account, on the web, Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad.

The weakness: English only, it needs a connection, and your speech is sent to Microsoft to analyse.

4. Speaker Coach in Teams

Best for: Private feedback in Teams meetings

If your calls are in Microsoft Teams, its Speaker Coach gives you private insights during the meeting and a report after, including your speaking time and repetitive language. Microsoft says no one but you sees them, not even your admin, and they aren't saved in meeting transcripts.

The weakness: Teams only, English only, not in channel meetings or Meet now, and admins can turn it off.

What about Poised?

Poised was a coach for real calls: live feedback on Mac and Windows, with no bot. A banner on its homepage says it is shutting down on 10/8/2026, so it's no longer an option. Our Poised alternatives page covers where its users can go.

How to turn on Koi's speaking coach

  1. In Koi's Settings, open the Koi tab and find Calls and meetings.
  2. Turn on Coach how I speak. To see the others in your language too, turn on Live captions in my language and pick it.
  3. On your next call, tap Fn + ⌃ and pick Online call, or choose Record an Online Call in the menu bar.
  4. When the call ends, say yes to Summarize this call? The coaching sits in the notes at the top of the call's page.

Who hears you practise?

Every coach here sends your speech somewhere except where noted. Yoodli says Starter and Pro session data may be used to improve the platform; Advanced keeps it out of AI training. PowerPoint and Teams send your speech to Microsoft's speech service. With Koi, the call is turned into text on your Mac and the audio stays there; only the transcript's words go to Koi's AI when you say yes to notes, and nothing of the notes is kept on Koi's server. Recording people may need their consent where you or they are, and Koi doesn't announce itself, so tell them.

A routine for calls in your second language

Practice apps train delivery: pace, filler words, energy. If your problem is that English, or German, or Japanese, isn't your first language, the hard part is usually different: you know what you mean, you just say it stiffly, and you miss things when people talk fast. Here is how Koi fits that:

  • Turn on Live captions in my language, on macOS 26, so you can follow the others in your own language as they speak.
  • Record the call with Koi, so you can go back to the transcript, You and Them in turns, afterwards.
  • Say yes to the notes with Coach how I speak on, and read the few lines of yours it put more naturally.
  • Practise the words it lists before your next call. That's the part Koi leaves to you.

If you also want to rehearse out loud and be scored, pair that with a practice app like Orai or Yoodli itself. They solve different problems.

Is there a free alternative to Yoodli?

Yoodli's own Starter is free for 5 sessions. PowerPoint's Speaker Coach is in free preview for rehearsing slides, in English. Orai is free to download, with paid plans. Teams' Speaker Coach comes with Teams, though Microsoft's page doesn't say which license it needs. Koi isn't free: Pro starts with a 3-day trial that needs a card. See Koi's plans.

Rehearsals or real calls: which helps more?

Rehearsing is safe: you can stop, retry and get a score with nothing at stake. That's where Yoodli, Orai and PowerPoint's coach shine, and why they're good before an interview or a pitch. The catch is that you speak differently when it's real: faster, with more fillers, and in a second language with more of the phrases you reach for under pressure.

Feedback on real calls catches those. Yoodli does it with nudges and a report; Teams Speaker Coach does it inside Teams; Koi does it in the notes after a call it recorded, and only on phrasing and words, not delivery. Most people who are serious about it use one tool of each kind: practice before, review after.

What each one needs to run

Yoodli runs in the browser and through its call integrations. Orai is a phone app, with a web app. PowerPoint's coach needs a Microsoft account and a connection. Teams Speaker Coach needs Teams with the app language set to English. Koi needs a Mac on macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel, for recording and the coach; the live captions that go with it need macOS 26 or later. Koi also needs Screen Recording allowed to hear the other side of a call.

When Yoodli is still the better pick

Stay on Yoodli if

  • You want to rehearse a pitch, an interview or a hard conversation before it happens.
  • You want scores, filler word counts and pacing, and progress over time.
  • You want nudges during the call, not notes after it.
  • Your team trains and certifies people with roleplays.

Which Yoodli alternative should you pick?

  • Real calls in your second language, with phrasing to learn from afterwards? Koi.
  • Daily speaking practice on your phone? Orai.
  • Rehearsing a slide deck, free? PowerPoint Speaker Coach.
  • Private feedback inside Teams meetings? Teams Speaker Coach.
  • Roleplays, live nudges and scores? Stay on Yoodli.
