The best Voibe alternatives for Mac

The best Voibe alternative depends on why you're leaving. Koi does local dictation and meeting recording on any Mac, Intel included. VoiceInk is $25 once, and Spokenly and Handy are free. Voibe Dictation is $99 a year or $199 once, and Voibe Work is $149 a year or $399 once.

Why people look for a Voibe alternative

Voibe is a private dictation app for Mac and Windows, made by Essence AI. On an Apple silicon Mac its on-device mode runs offline, and its paid plans have no word limit. Voibe Work adds meeting notes without a bot in the call. It's a solid app, and people who leave it usually have one of these reasons:

  • Price. Voibe Dictation is $99 a year or $199 once. Several apps do local dictation for $25 once, or for free.
  • Meeting notes cost more. Voibe Work is $149 a year or $399 once, on top of the dictation price.
  • An Intel Mac. Voibe's on-device mode needs Apple silicon (M1 or later). On Intel, and on Windows, it uses cloud mode.
  • The free plan is limited. Voibe Free has a word limit and covers one device.
  • Open source. Voibe says it uses open-source models, but its site doesn't say the app itself is open source.

We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Prices and features below come from each app's own site, checked October 21, 2026, in USD, per seat.

Voibe's plans and lifetime prices

PlanMonthlyYearlyLifetime
Voibe Free$0$0Limited words, one device
Voibe Dictation$9.90$99$199 once
Voibe Work$19$149$399 once

Every new account gets a 7-day trial of Voibe Work with no card, then drops to Free unless you pay. Paid plans have a 30-day refund guarantee. Voibe's cloud mode runs on Groq and Cerebras with zero data retention, it says, and transcripts are saved on your device. The current numbers are on Voibe's pricing page.

One thing we couldn't pin down: how many languages the on-device mode handles. Voibe's pages give different answers, from a short list of European languages to 100+. If you dictate in a smaller language, test it in the trial.

The best Voibe alternatives for Mac

1. Koi

Best for: Local dictation on any Mac, with call recording included

Koi does the two things Voibe Work does, dictation and meetings, on the Mac, on every plan. Tap Fn + ⌥ in any app and talk: speech is turned into text on your Mac, so it works offline, on Apple silicon and on Intel. Words appear while you speak, filler words go, and music or a loud room doesn't get written down.

Parakeet v3 is built in and works out which of its 25 European languages you're speaking; Whisper, Cohere Transcribe, Qwen3-ASR and Granite Speech are a download away, for 100 languages between them. Your words keeps up to 300 names and terms, and snippets type a saved text when you say its phrase.

For meetings, Koi records the call on the Mac with no bot joining, writes it down as it goes, and only with your yes sends the transcript's words to its AI for notes and to-dos. Tap Fn + ⌘ and you can also talk to Koi about your screen, which uses cloud AI.

Where Voibe wins: Windows, a free plan and a card-free trial. Koi is Mac only. Pro is $20 a month or $192 a year after a 3-day trial that needs a card. Lifetime is paid once, $59 for the first 25 buyers, rising to $199, and includes unlimited dictation and recorded calls.

2. VoiceInk

Best for: Local dictation for $25 once

VoiceInk transcribes on your Mac, removes filler words, has a dictionary and Smart Replace, and is open source under GPLv3. It's $25 once for one Mac, $39 for two and $49 for three, an eighth of Voibe's lifetime price. Like Voibe's on-device mode, it needs Apple silicon. More in VoiceInk alternatives.

3. Spokenly

Best for: Free local dictation with no account, on Mac, Windows and Linux

Spokenly's local Whisper and Parakeet models are free and unlimited, with no account. Local+ is $29 once; Pro, $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, adds its own cloud models and AI cleanup. It runs on Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone, and records meetings on the Mac. See Spokenly alternatives.

4. Handy

Best for: Free and open source, with Intel Mac builds

Handy is free and MIT-licensed, with downloads for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, Windows and Linux. It runs Whisper or Parakeet V3 locally and pastes the text into the field you're in. No meeting notes, few settings.

5. Superwhisper

Best for: Unlimited free local dictation, and Pro on every platform

Superwhisper's free plan has unlimited dictation with local Whisper models. Pro, $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once, adds cloud models, AI modes, file transcription and meetings on the Mac, and covers Macs, PCs, iPhone and Android on one license.

6. Wispr Flow

Best for: Cloud dictation with a Notetaker, on desktop and phones

If you liked Voibe's cloud mode more than its offline one, Wispr Flow is cloud dictation on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, with a Notetaker on Mac and Windows. Free is 2,000 words a week on desktop; Pro is $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly. There's no offline mode and no lifetime plan. See Wispr Flow alternatives.

Over three years, Voibe Work on the yearly plan is $447 and its lifetime license $399. Koi Pro paid yearly is $576, and Koi Lifetime is less than Voibe Work's lifetime at every step of its price ladder. For dictation alone, VoiceInk's $25 or the free apps beat both. See Koi's pricing for what each plan includes.

Is Voibe's lifetime license worth it?

A lifetime price only makes sense next to how long you'll keep the app. Here are three years of each, from the prices above, with no discounts or taxes.

PlanThe math3 years
Voibe Dictation, monthly$9.90 × 36$356.40
Voibe Dictation, yearly$99 × 3$297
Voibe Dictation, lifetimePaid once$199
Voibe Work, monthly$19 × 36$684
Voibe Work, yearly$149 × 3$447

Koi Pro, yearly$192 × 3$576
Koi LifetimePaid once$59 to $199

Spokenly Local+Paid once$29

If you're staying with Voibe, its lifetime licenses beat the yearly plans after about two years for Dictation and under three for Work. If you're not sure you'll stay, the 30-day refund gives you room to decide. And if meetings are the reason you'd buy Work, check whether you need its summaries or just the recording: Koi records on every plan, and its documents keep the transcript on your Mac.

When Voibe is still the better pick

Stay on Voibe if

  • You need the same app on Mac and Windows.
  • You want a trial with no card and a free plan to fall back on.
  • Your company wants a BAA, central billing or more than 10 seats under one contract.
  • You use Voibe Work's meeting summary templates and chat with your meetings.
  • You already own a lifetime license. Paid for is paid for.

How to switch from Voibe

  1. Copy out your custom vocabulary and spoken shortcuts. Voibe calls the shortcuts Memory; a new app won't know them.
  2. Export any meeting notes you want to keep. Voibe offers copy and PDF export.
  3. Install the new app and dictate the same email, chat reply and jargon-heavy paragraph in both.
  4. If you paid in the last 30 days and you're leaving, email Voibe for its refund.
  5. In Koi, add your words in Settings, Dictation, Your words, and spoken shortcuts as snippets in the same place.

Then allow the microphone and Accessibility, pick a plan, and tap Fn + ⌥. Our guide to recording a meeting on a Mac shows the meeting side.
