The best Screenpipe alternatives for Mac
Screenpipe left the MIT license in June 2026 and now costs $21 a month for full history. Five Mac alternatives, from open-source recall to help on request.
Rewind AI is gone: Meta bought Limitless on December 5, 2025, and Rewind's screen and audio capture switched off on December 19, 2025. For its searchable screen history, Screenpipe is the closest match. For meetings recorded and searched on your Mac with no bot, try Koi; for notes on every device, Granola AI.

What happened
Rewind was a Mac app that recorded your screen and audio and let you search everything you had seen, said or heard. Its company, Limitless, went on to make the Limitless Pendant, a wearable that records conversations, and a desktop and web app for meetings. On December 5, 2025, Limitless said it had been acquired by Meta, and that its team was joining Meta to build AI wearables (Limitless, 9to5Mac).
One more thing to know: the rewind.ai address now belongs to an unrelated website selling AI tools, with no link to Limitless or Meta. Use limitless.ai for anything about your old account.
We make Koi, the first pick below, so read this with that in mind. Every fact about the other apps comes from their own sites or GitHub pages, checked October 21, 2026, in USD.
Before you switch
Rewind and Limitless did three different jobs, and no single app on this page does all three. Work out which one you miss:

The picks
Best for: If you used Rewind for meetings: calls recorded and searched on your Mac
Koi isn't a screen recorder that runs all day, and won't give you a timeline of everything you saw. What it does replace is the meeting half. Tap Fn + ⌃ and pick Online call, and Koi records the call with no bot: your microphone as You, the Mac's sound as Them, transcribed on your Mac as it goes, kept as audio or with the screen's video. When a call app starts using the microphone, Koi offers to record, or starts by itself if you turn that on. Pick In person for a meeting or a class in the room.
Everything lands as a document on your Mac, with no cloud copy. Ask Koi “what did Sam say about pricing?” and it searches your calls, pages, dictations and chats and answers from them. Summaries happen only when you say yes, and then only the transcript's words go to its AI. It also has dictation that runs on your Mac and an assistant that sees your screen when you ask.
Pro is $20 a month, or $192 a year, after a 3-day trial that needs a card, and recording is unlimited on every plan. Lifetime is paid once, from $59. It runs on macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. No Windows, no phone app, no wearable.
Best for: The closest thing to Rewind: screen and audio, searchable
Screenpipe records your screen and audio and lets you find something you saw or heard earlier and scrub back through your day. It reads text from the screen, transcribes audio, and lets AI tools search your history through its API or MCP. Its site says raw history stays local by default, and you can exclude apps, windows and URLs. It runs on Mac, Windows and Linux.
Free covers one device. Basic is $21 a month, or $250 a year, and Business $42 a seat (Screenpipe pricing). It plans for about 30 GB of storage a month. Its code is source-available under its own commercial license, and new lifetime licenses are no longer sold. See Screenpipe alternatives.
Best for: An always-on memory with a free plan, kept in its cloud
Littlebird builds context from the work you let it capture, takes meeting notes without a bot, and lets other AI apps search its memory over MCP on paid plans. You can pause it, exclude apps, sites or categories, and delete your data.
Basic is free with 25 meeting notes in total; Plus is $17 a month billed yearly (Littlebird pricing). Mac and Windows, plus web and phone apps for chat. Unlike Rewind, your memory lives in its cloud. More in Littlebird alternatives.
Best for: Meeting notes on every device, free to start
If Limitless was your meeting notetaker, Granola is the best-known swap. You jot during the call and it fills your notes in from the transcript, with no bot. It runs on desktop, iPhone, Android and Apple Watch.
Basic is free with 30 days of history; Business is $14 per user a month (Granola pricing). It doesn't record your screen. See Granola AI alternatives.
Best for: An assistant that watches your day and hands you recaps
Highlight continuously observes your screen, minus what you exclude, and transcribes meetings. It turns that into recaps and chat. Notes and chat are stored in its cloud, encrypted.
No free plan: $35, $60 or $200 a month, with a 14-day trial on the first two (Highlight pricing). Apple silicon download.
Best for: Free and open source, if you're happy with Python
OpenRecall takes regular screenshots, reads the text in them, and lets you search and scroll back through your history. Everything stays on your computer, with no internet needed. It's AGPL-3.0, runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, and needs Python 3.11 and Git to install. Its last change on GitHub was September 24, 2025, and there are no packaged releases.
Rem, another open-source Rewind clone for the Mac, under the MIT license, calls itself very alpha and hasn't changed since May 30, 2024 (Rem on GitHub).

How to
For a class or a talk in the room, pick In person instead. Our guides cover Zoom, in-person meetings and lectures.
The real question
Rewind's promise was perfect memory: whatever you saw, it had. That's useful when you need to find a page you closed last week. It's also a record of everything on your screen, private messages included, unless you exclude them, and Screenpipe plans for about 30 GB of it a month.
Koi takes the narrower road. It keeps what you choose to keep: calls you record, documents you write, dictations, and chats with Koi, all as files on your Mac. It only sees your screen when you ask it something, and takes no picture while a password is being typed. The cost is that it can't find something you only glanced at. If that's what you miss most about Rewind, Screenpipe is your pick. If it was meetings, Koi or Granola will do.
