Tell Koi when. It does it then.
Give Koi a task and a time: the news every weekday at 8, five new words a day, a website checked for what's new. It runs on your Mac and the notch says when.
Zapier is the pick for automations across many apps, in the cloud. For a simple AI task each morning, Koi runs it on your Mac from plain words. Lindy acts in your accounts, and Keyboard Maestro automates the Mac.

Zapier connects thousands of apps. Schedule by Zapier starts a Zap every hour, day, week or month, or on weekdays only, and the Zap then does things in your apps: send an email, post to Slack, add a row. AI by Zapier steps (on Pro and up) and Zapier Agents bring AI into those runs. It all runs in Zapier's cloud, so your computer can be off.
The free plan has 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps. Pro is $19.99 a month billed yearly, or $29.99 month to month, for 750 tasks, with a 14-day trial; Team is $69 a month billed yearly. Agents are counted in activities: 400 a month free, 1,500 on Pro.
We make Koi, so read this with that in mind. Koi is not an automation platform, and we're clear about the difference below. Every fact about another app comes from that app's own site, checked October 26, 2026.
The picks
Best for: A daily AI task in plain words, answered on your Mac
Open the notch's Routines tab, write what you want in your own words, like “the 5 biggest stories in my country, two lines each”, and pick once, every day, weekdays or chosen days. At that time Koi searches the web for real, reads a page you name, your calendar or this week's notes if the task needs them, and the notch says it's ready. There's nothing to wire up.
Where Zapier is better, plainly: it acts in thousands of apps, runs with your Mac off, and does many steps in a row. Koi's tasks run only while your Mac is awake and online, and give you an answer rather than doing things in other apps. Koi is $20 a month or Lifetime, paid once, and each run uses your plan's Koi.
Best for: An AI assistant that works in your accounts
Lindy's routines run daily, weekly or monthly, or on events like a new email, written in plain English like “every weekday at 9”. It can search the web and act in Gmail, Slack and Google Calendar. Free with $50 of credits for 7 days; Team from $49.99 a month. More in our Lindy alternatives.
Best for: Automating the Mac itself, on a timer
Mac macros with a Time of Day trigger on the days you pick, and many actions for menus, windows, keys and files. No AI built in. $36 once, macOS 10.13 or later. More in our Keyboard Maestro alternatives.
Best for: Free automations on macOS 26
Since macOS 26 Tahoe, Shortcuts on the Mac runs personal automations by itself, like “at 8:00 AM, weekdays”, and its Use Model action can call Apple Intelligence. Free, with nothing to install.
